BHF free furniture collection: rules and booking

The British Heart Foundation collects furniture and electrical items from your home for free, then sells them in its shops. Its van crews only take things the shops can sell.

  • Nationwide, by postcode
  • Free

Key facts

  • Your local BHF store contacts you within 5 working days of booking to agree a date.
  • Sofas, padded chairs and other upholstered furniture need a fire safety label attached. The BHF says it cannot sell them by law without one.
  • Items must work, have all their parts, and be free of stains, rips and smells.
  • The crew will take bags of smaller things only if you are also giving furniture or electricals.
  • You must be over 18, and be there when they collect unless you agree otherwise in advance.
  • To change or cancel, contact the BHF by 3pm the day before.

How to use this service

  1. Enter your postcode on the BHF booking page to check they collect where you live.
  2. Say what you are giving, where it is and when suits you.
  3. Wait for your local BHF store to contact you and agree a date.

Mistakes to avoid

  • A rip that shows the filling means a sofa no longer meets fire safety rules, so the crew will turn it down.
