Binmap cookies and browser storage

Binmap keeps a small amount of information in your browser. Most of it makes the site work. Analytics cookies are only used if you agree.

Needed for the site to work

Names that start with binmap are kept in your browser's storage, not in cookies. Those marked "this visit" are cleared when you close the tab.

  • The bm_coord_sid cookie (24 hours) lets the map show exact points to a real visitor and limits bulk copying.
  • The bm_ms cookie (24 hours) keeps the map session consistent between requests.
  • Cloudflare security cookies, eg __cf_bm (30 minutes) and cf_clearance (set only after a Cloudflare check), tell real visitors from automated traffic.
  • The binmap.consent key remembers your choice about analytics cookies.
  • The binmap.analytics.optOut key remembers that you turned off usage statistics.
  • The binmap.lastViewport, binmap:userLocation and binmap:searchNear keys remember where the map was and the place you last searched near.
  • The binmap.binCollection.lastInput key remembers the postcode and address you last looked up.
  • The binmap.savedAddress key holds the address and postcode of your last bin day lookup, your council and the dates that came back, so your bin day shows first when you come back. It stays on your device. "Forget this address" removes it and the binmap.binCollection.lastInput key.
  • The binmap.binCollection.addressHandoff key (this visit, 10 minutes) carries the address you picked to its bin day page.
  • The binmap.binReport.carry key (this visit) keeps your reason and note when you report several bins in a row.
  • The binmap.binReport.sent key lists the bins you reported, so the outcome can be shown to you.
  • The binmap.scroll keys (this visit) remember how far down each page you were, so Back returns you there.

Usage statistics

These count visits and actions so the site can be improved. They are not shared for advertising. You can turn them off below.

  • The binmap.analytics.anonymousId key is a random identifier for this browser.
  • The binmap.analytics.session key (this visit) is a random identifier for this visit.
  • The binmap.analytics.attribution key (this visit) holds the site that linked you here.
  • The binmap.analytics.events key is a short queue of records waiting to be sent.

Analytics cookies, only if you agree

  • Google Analytics sets the _ga and _ga_6TQ6FWG9NH cookies (up to 2 years) to tell visits apart.

Changing your mind

Use the controls on this page at any time. You can also clear cookies and site data in your browser settings, which resets every choice.
