Charity shops take clean things in good condition that they can sell again. Check with the shop before you take furniture or electricals.
Binmap lists 3,129 charity shops and reuse shops: 2,954 charity shops and 175 reuse shops.
The charities with the most shops on Binmap are British Heart Foundation (651), Sue Ryder (405) and British Red Cross (292).
Of these, 203 list furniture and 171 list electricals.
Safety rules stop charities selling some things. The British Heart Foundation, for example, cannot take sofas or chairs without a fire safety label. It also cannot take used pillows and duvets, cots, car seats or gas appliances.
Bags left outside get damaged or wet and often end up as waste. In a 2026 survey, 93% of charity retailers said people had dumped things outside their shops in the past year.
The British Heart Foundation collects furniture, electricals and homeware from homes across the country for free.
