Plastic bags and wrapping: what supermarkets take back
Plastic bags and wrapping can go to collection points at larger supermarkets, says Recycle Now. Everything must be clean and free of food.
Key facts
- All plastic bags are accepted, except biodegradable and compostable bags.
- Magazine and newspaper wrappers, fruit and vegetable nets, and plastic marked LDPE 4 are accepted too.
- Selected stores of major supermarkets also take crisp and sweet bags, biscuit wrappers, cheese and meat wrapping, and pet food pouches.
- Each store's details on the Recycle Now locator say which of these it takes.
- Tear off sticky labels where you can.
- Compostable bags are not made to be recycled. Put them in a home compost bin if you have one.
