Tips, also called household waste recycling centres, take the household waste that does not fit in your bins. Councils run them for the people who live in their area.
Binmap lists 520 tips.
The things they list most often are glass bottles and jars (250), paper (231), household batteries (230) and scrap metal (224).
In England and Wales the law says councils must provide tips where residents can leave their household waste for free.
Since 1 January 2024, tips in England treat small amounts of DIY waste from your home as household waste. That means up to two 50 litre rubble bags a visit, free of charge.
Larger amounts can cost money. Open the page for your tip to check its charges.
Some councils ask you to book a slot. In a government survey in 2023, 55% of the councils that answered had a booking system.
Some tips need a permit for vans and trailers. Open the page for your tip to see the rules Binmap has found.
