How to dispose of cooking oil

Small amounts of cooking oil can usually go in your household waste in a closed container. Larger amounts can go to an oil bank that takes cooking oil.

Household waste

Check what your council takes. It may ask for oil in a clear closed container labelled as waste oil.

Oil banks

Some oil banks take cooking oil as well as engine oil. The Oil Bank Line website lists them.

Keep oil out of drains

The Oil Care Campaign, run with the UK environment agencies, says never to pour oil down a drain or onto the ground.
